"I realized no matter how much I begged, it would do no good. So I just went along, hoping the magnificent creatures didn't show themselves."
Gabby sighed and wiped the tears from her face. The girl straightened up and walked up to her father. "Will you shoot them all?"
Her father turned and put his index finger to his mouth. "Shh. They'll hear us." His gaze shifted around the forest, then back to Gabby. "Not all of them." He answered her question.
"Little did we know that we were being watched. And this one fatal mistake brought down the first one."
"Let's get them." A large brown wolf growled lowly. He was standing next to a larger male, the lead warrior, Kitchi.
"No. If we hurt them, they'll kill us all." Kitchi retorted, his gaze shifting back to the humans.
"Why should I listen to you? You're the one who told us we would be safe here!" The male growled and leaped over the bush and onto the girl.
Gabby went down to the ground screaming, her hands over her head. "Daddy!"
Trent whipped around and took aim. As he pulled the trigger, the loud yelp echoed throughout the forest, and the male lay dead on top of Gabby.
"Why don't you listen." Kitchi sighed and turned away silently. Nothing else was heard, even the birds stopped chirping and the squirrels stopped chattering as the large, muscular male stalked through the undergrowth back to the pack. He walked up to the largest male of the pack, a black and gray, obviously the alpha. "Talon. Inteus is dead. He didn't listen and attacked the girl."
The older male pushed himself to a sitting position. "Oh Kitchi, I should have known this was coming. Inteus was always the stubborn type. We'll send for his carcass after they leave."
"Yes, Talon." Kitchi dipped his head and backed away slowly out of the den.
