Impulse snarled as the two cats ran away, but she guessed that her job was done here. She just wanted those cats out of the way. Her eyes flickered between the conversation of the dogs, Echo and Dusk, annoyed that she was left out of the talk when she had practically started it. She had a lot to say, but she couldn't give him a piece of her mind now. He was long gone, probably to go find the ginger she-cat again. Impulse rolled her eyes and padded over to the window that Echo had showed the husky, eyes taking on a melancholy look. She rested her head on the sill, letting the soak her to the core. "Sometimes I do wonder what its like." She watched as the dog cuddled up with the human, safe, warm, happy. Remembering Dusk's outburst of how his old owners had abused him, she stepped down and growled lowly. "But in the end I don't need them."

Cream couldn't stop from shivering as she was led behind a dumpster by the ginger she-cat. She heard a voice that advanced toward them, Dawn tolf her to be quiet as she went to confront the hostile stranger. Cream peered out just as someone said 'the scared are who die first', and she was face to face with another she-cat. The glare in those eyes made Cream take a step back, her breath catching.
"So when were you thrown out?" Well, this cat sure knows how to get to the point. Cream's ears pinned against her skull, her eyes taking on a look of realization.
"H-Huh? Thrown o...out?" She mewed, "I-I wasn't...I dont know..."

Dawn walked over and stood beside the cream cat. `She is cold and confused, not to mention scared out of her mind, I want to get her dry and safe before I ask her anything, do you know any places?` She asked the unfamiliar cat.

-Echo looked back at Impulse before trotting on and leaping through the busted window of an old, rusted car. She curled up in the backseat, watching the rain drip from the top of the door.- "Just a collar. I'd like to see a pet survive one week out here." -She growled and closed her eyes, listening to the pitter-patter of the rain hitting the roof of the car.-
———————————————
"Look around. Trash cans, dumpsters, climb under buildings. Is it really that hard?" -Ember whipped around to face the dog.- "Back off dog!" -She hissed with an arched back and unsheathed claws.-

Cream froze as the she-cat whipped around and hissed at a husky. She recognized him from when he had saved her from the cat-eating mutts. Cream mewed and stepped out, tail pressed between her back legs, "H-Hey, don't hurt him! He helped me," She said shakily, interrupted by a sudden, repeated yipping. The sound of rapid, tiny paws clipping the cement and the swish of a leash trailing behind caught Cream's attention. A blur of light brown crashed into her and started licking her face. She stared up into baby blue eyes and the familar aussie face. Spice! ______________________________________________
Spice had finally caught Cream's scent despite the deluding rain, and wasn't about to miss her. He yanked his leash out of Jen's hands in order to find her, somehow running much faster on stubby little legs than his owner. Happy to find his feline friend again, he covered her face in sloppy kisses (it wouldn't matter much since they were both soaked in rainwater already). The pup got off of her and immediately his expression became very serious, as he scowled at the three strays. A husky and two cats.
"Who're the hell are you?" He asked boldly.

-Ember turned to look at the cat with the collar.- "A dog helped you? He just wanted to save you so he could kill you himself." -She hissed and swiped her claws at the new dog.- "Some language for a pup." -The she-cat's fur bristled despite the rain beating it back down. Ember was in too large a crowd to be comfortable in.-

Cream arched her back at the flame-furred she-cat's words, but didn't say anything. She locked eyes with the husky for a second, then went to crouch behind Spice, who despite his small stature, stood tall and proud, chest puffed out. A paw came to swipe at the aussie pup, but he was pulled away fast enough so that the claws only clipped the tip of his nose. He looked over his shoulder at Cream, who had dug her claws into his flank and pulled him back. She let go and stood up again, still standing submissively behind Spice. "I'll say what I want," He grumbled, glaring at the strangers.

`Stop!` The deep voice of the husky yelled out in the alley though to a human it was merely a bark. Dusk looked over at Ember `Watch your tone cat I saved her because I did nothing more nothing less, and do Not raise another paw to that pup,` He growled. He looked over at the new pup `I am Dusk, this is Dawn, who are you?` He asked, his voice soft yet reserved. Dawn sat, wrapping her tail around her body and glared at the cat that blamed Dusk. Her eyes flared with anger, once more. `I can see none of us will get along, Fine then, Cream It was very nice seeing you again, if you ever need any help, don't be afraid to call for me, just yowl as loud as you can, I have always had sensitive hearing.` He smiled at the cat, whose life he had just saved about 3 minutes ago. He went to walk towards cream and the pup to walk around them, but froze. Immediately his ears went down and he backed up a step. He looked up at the human girl who held the pups leash. `Oh no..` Dawn thought. She stood protectively beside Dusk, he seemed far weaker then before now. Dusk felt scared, weak, he hadn't been near a human in years, and he always avoided them. What if she hurt him too?

-Ember hissed and raised her paw.- "What are you going to do?" -She rolled her eyes.- "Yeah, yeah. Dawn, Dusk." -The she-cat smirked as the husky cowered.- "What's wrong?" -She teased and flicked her tail.- "Well, I've stayed long enough." -Ember stretched and leaped onto a trash can and climbed onto a ledge on the building beside the alley.-

Jen stood in the middle of this dark alleyway, soaked from head to toe in rainwater, her jeans caked from knee down with mud, and still, her two eyes like shining green islands held no malice or irritation. The minute she saw hulking black and white husky she squealed in delight, a beaming smile appearing on her face. However she remembered from her parents to never touch a stray that you don't know, she reached her hand out to him sniff her. "Well aren't you a pretty boy~" She said soothingly over the hum of rain battering the ground. Her eyes looked up at the ginger cat that seemed to be following him around, "Oh, is this your friend? She's very pretty too-" ___________________________________________________
Cream's eyes widened to the size of saucers at the sight of her owner. The feline bounded up to the girl and leaped into the safety of her arms. Jen cradled her and held her lovingly to her chest. Cream purred and rubbed the top of her head against her owner's chin. "OhmygoshImissedyousomuchIpromiseI'llnevereverleavethe... housealoneagainIloveyousomuch" The words spilled out of Cream's mouth so fast that they were pretty much unintelligible. Of course, all Jen could hear was a bunch of fast mews and purrs. Spice rolled his eyes and stepped behind Jen, still glaring at the fillthy strays. Jen kneeled and held a still hand out to Dusk's nose, "So, are these guys your new friends...?" Jen asked eagerly.

Dusk felt fear wash over him, but when his deep brown eyes met her glassy green glowing eyes, a warm secure feeling smothered his fear. He slowly reached his nose out, and for the first time in years, sniffed a human. Her ginger like smell filled his nose. It was like a warm christmas night, and it made his stomach grumble. Slowly he licked her hand, it was cold and shook slightly most likely from the rain. He licked it once more and looked up at her, before sliding his head under her hand as though begging to be patted. Dawn smiled and trotted over to the girl's legs and rubbed against them, purring. Her voice soothed any fears and worries he had at the moment as he licked her arm once more and his tail even seemed to wag slightly, sending water splashing around. Dawn stood on the girl's shoes, avoiding the flooded ground. Dawn smiled slightly, though it faded. Dusk was getting comfortable, but they were stray's how would her family react to her touching what pets would consider "Disgusting mutts".

Jen giggled and raised one arm to cover her smile, giving the dog a pat on the head. He was unusually affectionate for a stray, but maybe he had been disowned once. She grinned at the ginger cat that was now standing on her shoes, rubbing against her legs and making purr noises. Jen ran her hand smoothly across the cat's side, then pulled away. She took a step back in order to get the cat off her shoes, her eyes turning a bit sympathetic. These animals craved such human company, but she wouldn't be the one to give it to them. Jen squatted and delved into her pocket, producing two, delectable treats the size of her thumb. They seemed to be sprinkled with something that looked similar to cinnamon. She ignored Spice's greedy look as she tossed them at the ginger cat and the husky. "I have to go now or I'll catch a cold. I'll see you guys tomorrow, maybe!" __________________________________ As Jen snatched Spice's leash back up and started strolling away, Cream still in her arms, the she-cat wriggled around so she could peer over her owner's shoulder. Her brown eyes held weary sadness, "Thank you," She meowed to them, watching them disappear behind a corner. Spice gladly left, trotting beside Jen without missing a beat. ______________________________________________ ((Tiem skip? Early morning...))
Impulse growled and slammed her front paws onto the door of the beaten, rusty car. She clamped the handle between her teeth and pulled, the car door swinging open with an unpleasant screech. The mutt hopped into the car and prodded Echo roughly, "Up an' at 'em." She barked, "Mutt's out there say it's our turn to hunt for breakfast," Impulse's words were slightly slurred, obviously from being up so early. "I smell hotdogs. Do you smell hotdogs?"

Dusk's ears fell as the small child left but his attention went to the treat. In one bite he finished the treat and looked up at the small cat. He smiled "You are welcome! Remember if you ever need anything, just meow` He winked and watched them disappear into the hazy film of rain. Dawn had finished her treat by now and stood beneath Dusk escaping the rain. They watched until the scent of the child was washed away and there was no trace of what had happened the past hour.
The sun was what woke the drowsy husky as his eyes flickered open and he slowly sat up. Him and Dawn had fallen asleep in an old art building near the edge of town. The floor were covered in wall parts and dust. The walls were peeling terribly and once amazing artworks were now beds for strays or chew toys for mice. Dawn sat atop a fold in table and just finished licking her paws clean when she noticed the movie husky. "Goodmorning sunshine" She smiled hoping off of her perch and walking over to Dusk. Though the husky was alive and moving, his eyes lacked the usual pride and spirit they always contained. Dawn suspected the night before, when the human had showed him love. It had been years since he had any and he must of loved the feeling to be wanted again. She purred slightly and smiled "Come on, let's get breakfast" Dusk nodded and stood shaking his fur out. He walked along side the cat and out of the building. As they walked onto the busy side-walk little to no one noticed them. Just in case, Dusk made Dawn walk underneath him. As they walked along the cement walk-way, Dusk stopped spotting a frie stand. He smiled slightly and nodded to Dawn, their plan already made out. Dawn trotted through the busy street avoiding on coming cars. As she reached the stand she reached up and padded on the man's leg. "Get away stupid cat" The man said scooching the cat aside with his foot. She walked back to him and rubbed against his leg. "Go" he said picking the cat up and setting her aside. As he did this, Dusk made his move. He ran forward and leaped over the cart, knocking it over. He skidded to a stop and Dawn squirmed out of the man's grasp. Dusk ran past the cart, grabbing a mouthful of fries and Dawn did the same close behind. They ran through the street and disappeared down an alley as the man cursed and yelled. "Stupid strays!!"

-Echo woke up with a jolt. She blinked the sleepiness away and groaned as she stood up and stretched.- "Yeah, not to far from here." -She said, sniffing the air and caught the scent of hot dogs through the strong scent of the junkyard.- "Let's go." -She shook her fur and padded to the entrance.- "So what was that all about yesterday with Dusk? Does he really think he's the only one that's been betrayed?"
-The tabby and calico mix cowered from a hand that reached out for her. She had been up all morning roaming the backyards and just so happened to come across a woman who loved cats. As the woman opened a can of cat food and placed it on the ground, Ember flicked her tail.- "Another can-opener." -She mumbled and sat down a few feet away. She waited for what seemed like forever of whistling and 'here kitty kittys' before the woman gave up and walked back into the house.- "Ugg, here goes." -Ember meowed and lapped up the moist food.- "Ehh, not as bad as the other." -She mewed and darted up a wooden fence. The she-cat settled down under a branch.-

Impulse trotted briskly out of the junkyard alongside Echo, her nose raised to catch the tantalizing scent of hotdogs. The sidewalks were a bit darkened by the rain, which was fine since it moistened her dried up paw pads. It had washed out the filth that showed up starkly in her white fur, and she didn't have to worry about her fur matting since it was too fine and short. Her floppy ears perked at Echo's question, only stopping briefly to wonder where Dusk could be at this hour.
"Oh, I don't know much about him other than that he hangs out with a cat. Traitor." She stopped at a corner and looked over her shoulder at the shorter mutt, "I don't think that he thinks he's the only one. Probably just over-dramatic. Someone could have dropped a dumbell on his tail to make him think that for all I care." She smirked and peered over the corner at the hot-dog stand, which was emanating a tantalizing, meaty scent. Impulse's mouth watered.
"Here's the plan," Impulse began, eyeing a couple of little kids who each had a hot-dog cradled in their stubby little hands, "You try to snag a hotdog for yourself from the little pink pups over there," Her honey-glazed eyes trailed over to the hotdog links that spilled over the hotdog stand: just in her reach. "And while the hot-dog guy tries to chase you off I'll grab the links. Sound good?"

Dusk looked up at the sky as he finished his meal quickly. The sky was fading into a grey, promising another rain storm. He licked his nose as a small drop of rain fell onto his nose. "Mommy look!" A small voice yelled. Dusk looked onto the sidewalk passing by the alley. A chubby boy pulled against his mother's grasp pointing towards the two strays. "I want one!" The mother's face showed true disgust "No you don't those are filthy vermins that shouldn't be here" she pulled the kid farther from the alley and down the sidewalk. Dusk watched without a word, his ears fell. "I need a walk" he said standing and walking down onto the sidewalk. Dawn watched silently, her chest heavy with words to say, but wouldn't come out. She looked up at the darkening sky, it wouldn't rain yet but it would soon. She stood and turned slowly walking down the dark alley the opposite way and disappearing around the corner. Dusk walked down the sidewalk, fewer people strolled down it then before, most likely avoiding the coming storm. The few that did, took steps to the side to get out of the stray's way. He didn't give them one glance, he kept his head down and his ears back.

"Sounds good." -Echo nodded and flicked an ear. She padded up to the children and weaved her way around them, then turned and snatched one from the child's hand. The child started crying and the vendor was raising his hands, yelling at the stray.- "Now!"
-Ember lashed her tail back in forth in annoyance as a small chihuahua burst from the back door of the house and sprinted over to the fence. The she-cat growled to herself once the barking and yipping started.- "Ugg, shut up!" -She hissed and balanced on the fence, walking away from the house.-
-Ember was now a few houses down from the dog, but she could still hear it.- "Is that all it has to do all day?" -She went on, muttering things to herself, paying little attention to where she was going. Ember leaped down from the fence and saw the familiar husky padding down the sidewalk.- "Eh, I wonder where that traitor of a cat is?"

Dawn's blue eyes glared down at the familiar cat from her perch atop a roof. She flicked her tail in annoyance and rolled her eyes. "Eh, I wonder where that traitor of a cat is?" Dawn sighed and shook her head in annoyance once more.

Impulse made a bee-line for the hot-dog stand, the meat so close that she could taste it. She snagged the links and dragged it out, it held about twelve hotdogs, not nearly enough to feed each of the strays, but if they shared it could be possible... Her eyes glanced over at Echo, and more importantly, the man that raised an arm to hit her. Impulse gave a muffled growl and gave him a powerful kick to his back side with her hind legs, stunning him temporarily. As he grunted and doubled over, buying the two mutts just enough time for escape, Impulse raced away with the links still dangling from her jaws. __________________________________________________
Cream sighed and started boredly out of the window. Spice and Jen had left to go to the dog park, her owner having insisted that she stay since one, the dogs would eat her alive, and two, she couldn't risk Cream getting lost again. The cat sighed and stood up, fed up with this loneliness. She crept up the stairs and into the musty, old attic. This was the only place where Cream could get out without anyone noticing, and she rarely used it. She hopped up a few stacked books and tables, which kicked up dust that collected in her throat. She hacked and reached the window that was missing one panel (it was almost unnoticeable since glass is see-through anyway...And Jen's parents just couldn't be bothered to replace it.)
She carefully slipped out, taking care not to disturb the shingles on the roof, and made her way to the ground. Cream opened her mouth to drink in the scent of none other than Dawn or Dusk.
Maybe they would give her something to be useful for.

Dusk felt another drop of rain hit his eye, and his gaze flickered up to the darkening sky. He sneezed slightly before licking his nose and continuing forward. Dusk's ears swiveled to the sides catching each and every sound made. He kept his pace slow, his head down. He walked past a large house, the door was closed tight of course and a welcome mat sat outside though Dusk knew he wasn't welcome. As he passed the side of the house he glanced at the panels of the house before continuing his walk. He suddenly stopped and looked up again at them, a small cream figure sitting against them. "Cream" Dusk said with a smile turning and walking towards her.His head was high once more and his tail curled up. Dusk smiled but it faded quickly as his legs sped up, pumping like machines as he sped towards the cat. "Cream!" he yelled though to anyone else it was merely a bark. As he reached the cat he didn't slow down instead, he grabbed her by the back of the neck and shoved his back legs under him, skidding to a stop. He turned sharply and pushed off of the ground heading the way he came. "Stupid mutts come here!" A male voice yelled. It was a stray catcher, and he almost had Cream. Dusk turned sharply as he reached the cement walkway and he ran down the sidewalk. His paws created soft padding noises, as he ran. He still held the cat in his mouth as he sped up even more. "Hang on" he said through her fur before turning sharply and entering an alley. He padded down the dark alley, the muffled steps of the chasing catcher fading. His eyes widened as they neared the end of the alley, a dead end. Dusk shoved his back legs under him again, skidding to a stop and turning to face the stray catcher. He ran towards them, net and pole in hand. Dusk set Cream down behind him, "Climb" he said. He looked up at a the brick wall behind them, several of the bricks were missing creating a clear ladder up. "Go now, I'll hold them off" He said turning to look at the man once more. "Go!" he rushed sliding his muzzle under the cat's stomach and lifting her on top of the small trash can below the bricks. He turned again this time, his eyes narrowed, his ears back, his haunches raised, and his teeth bared. He growled low before charging forward, he leaped up and landed on top of the man bringing them both to the ground.

-Echo grabbed the three hot dogs the she had managed to take from the three children and sped after Impulse. Her long matted her picked up even more dirt and mud as she sprinted through puddles, sending water and debris against her belly and legs. Echo darted into the junkyard and set the hot dogs down before barking.- "Breakfast!"
-Ember padded confidently behind Dusk, rolling her eyes as the dog ran towards yet another cat.- "Does he not get the whole hierarchy of dogs and cats?" -She huffed and padded silently after them. When she saw the humans, she wheeled around and leaped onto a fence, then sat, watching them. She wouldn't dare help a dog.- "Get another good-for-nothing mutt off of the streets." -She muttered to herself, quite unclearly to the on-lookers.-

Impulse laughed good-naturedly as the junkyard dogs swarmed to take the link hotdogs. She dropped them and waited for the last mutts to take their share, watching as they inhaled the tasty treats. Normally they wouldn't be this lucky, but life on the streets makes you clever. Impulse stood up as the last few dogs started padding away, and bent down to take half of a hot-dog when some mutt, foaming to the mouth, who had already had his share, bashed into her. She let out a surprised yelp before snarling ferociously. She nipped the side of his muzzle and slugged him hard, sending him into a discarded wooden dresser. He growled before paddinf away in defeat. Impulse gulped up the last of the hot-dog, angrily chomping away at it. "Dumb rabids..." She swallowed and turned around, "See ya around, Echo. I'm hopin' to mess with some dogs in the park, if you wanna come along feel free," Impulse smiled before sprinting off. _________________________________________________
Cream hopped onto a first brick that was pushed too far out among the others, her eyes flickering back and forth between Dusk and her footing on the bricks like they were lifelines. She stuck a paw into a dip where one brick was missing, hauled her herself up and began climbing a rapid pace. Her ears shot up as the sound of a body thudding against the ground met her ears, causing her to yowl and fall down a couple steps. She panted, her eyes meeting a small fence where a certain flame-furred calico was perching. Cream felt helpless and guilty, what if the dog-catcher took Dusk away? ______________________________________________
A white and brown blur skidded to a stop near the husky, panting lightly. Impulse clamped onto the humans catching stick, yanking it away from his grasp. It was unusually easy, since Dusk had nearly knocked the air from the man's lungs by pouncing on him. She raised the stick in her jaws and let it fall, so it slammed into the guy's face. Impulse thrust the stick away and looked up at the pet that was still clinging onto the bricks. As much as I hate cats...If I don't help her this mutt will get caught. Impulse sighed and leapt onto the trash can, ripping the cat from the wall by its tail and set it roughly on the metal lid. Impulse picked the startled cat up by the scruff again and ran, the contents of the trash can spilling over. "He's winded, Dusk! Let's go!"

Without hesitation the husky leaped over the human's head and took off after the two animals. The human quickly picked himself up and watched as they turned the corner of the alley and disappeared. He wiped his shirt off and shook his head. Dusk sped after Impulse, his legs pumping back and forth, smashing against the concrete until he finally caught up with them. Dusk turned his gaze next to him as Dawn leaped off of her perch atop a house and ran instep beside the three animals. He smiled and sped up with Impulse as they ran. Finally, they reached the end of the block and Dusk turned sharply entering an alley. Him and Dawn slowed to a stop, Dusk panting. He turned to look at Impulse. "..thanks" he said cautiously. "Why did you help me?"

Impulse skidded to stop and panted, glancing over her shoulder to make sure no one was a pursuing them. She nodded and turned to Dusk, raising an eyebrow. "You were in trouble. Do I need anymore reason than that?" The mutt sighed and brushed a paw gingerly over the cement, her gaze glued to the ground. "I've also heard life in the pound is harder than in the streets..." Impulse muttered. ________________________________________________
Cream plopped down next to Dawn right on the filth covered ground, her sides heaving. The pet wasn't used to this much running or panic. The she-cat looked up with a sheepish smile, "Saved again. I really owe you guys."

Dusk nodded down at the cat "No problem," his sides heaving "Remember, if you ever need anything just call" he smiled. He looked up at Impulse. The wind swayed the huskies fur, exposing unknown scars. Ones from his history, each told a story. A long scar across his shoulder told the story of the time he jumped on the couch. His punishment was a knife. The one up his front right leg, was from the time he barked in the house. His punishment was a beating. His brown eyes studied the stray, silent and curious. "Pound or street,Either way we aren't wanted right? That's really the worst pain a dog can feel." He said walking past the dog with Dawn following close behind. "Come on Cream, I'll take you to get something to eat. Then I'll take you home" he said walking out of the alley.
